DO YOUR PART,
BE STREET SMART

A MESSAGE ON ROAD SAFETY

Our Road Maintenance and Operations Division team is responsible for ensuring our public roadways are safe and efficient for drivers every day. We take our jobs seriously to protect travelers making their way through our community.

Now, we’re asking residents to do their part by obeying the rules of the road. As you and your loved ones venture out for a spin, we ask you to be alert, make smart decisions, and prioritize safety over speed so that everyone can survive the drive!

FAST FACTS: COMMON RULES OF THE ROAD

Left, Left, Change Lanes, Left, Right, Left…

  • No matter what direction you’re going, always use your signal.
  • It’s your turn to use your signal.

Freeways

  • Always merge onto freeways at the end of the on-ramp matching the speed of traffic.
  • Slow down on the off-ramp not the freeway, unless signs indicate a reduced speed

Be Bright, Use Those Headlights

  • Lights on 1-hour before sunset
  • During inclement weather (rain or snow)
  • When conditions prevent you from seeing (fog, smoke, or dust)

Do You Know Left vs. Right?

  • Drive right
  • There is no such thing as a “fast-lane”, the speed limit is the same for all lanes
  • Left lanes are used for passing, or turning left
  • Right lane is used to travel, enter roadways, or exit traffic
  • Avoid causing road-rage, yield to faster moving traffic
  • Enforcement of speed limits is law enforcement’s responsibility

If roadwork is underway, obey the speed limits, slow down, and keep your distance.

You never know what you’ll find in your blind spot. Check it before you wreck it!

Here’s Your Sign to Stop:

  • Stop Means Stop.
  • Look right, left, then right…proceed only when safe
  • Cross traffic may not stop (read the signs)

At a Yield:

  • Slow down
  • Prepare to stop
  • Assess the roadway
  • Proceed once safe

Roundabout Reminder:

  • Reduce Speed
  • Only enter once safe
  • Upon entry, travel counterclockwise
  • Never change lanes or exit without signaling
  • Drive to your destination
  • The More You Know, the Easier it Will Go!
  • Vehicles in the roundabout have the right of way and do not stop
  • Vehicles entering stop only if it is unsafe to enter with the flow of traffic

It’s as easy as 1, 2, 3… seconds of space between you and the car in front of you.

Watch Out for Pedestrians, Motorcycles, and Bicycles on Your Route!

Bicycles

  • Must obey all signs and markings for vehicles
  • Have a right to the road, don’t be “dead right”
